A Tree

A tree that I love

Is on common ground, nearby.

In springtime it’s laden

With heavy leaves

Lush, green, succulent.

Drawing energy up through the roots

Drawing energy down from sunlight and rain

Living above the earth line

Yet energised from underground.

Leaves reaching up towards the light

Tracing the sun

Then folding inwards

As dusk dawns

As nighttime approaches.

Strong stems and gentle buds

Transmute into green spiky cases

Candles become conkers

A glorious event

The deep brown seed sets itself free

Stepping away from the mother tree.

How wondrous!

Falling on fertile ground

Feeling nurtured and connected.

Poem written as the result of a free writing exercise while on a retreat entitled The Heart of Imagination.
